A very veggie Christmas
People often ask me what I eat at Christmas as I'm a vegetarian and can't have turkey. It's usually asked in a very pitying fashion as though my entire Christmas will be ruined if I don't eat a dead bird!
Even when I did eat meat, turkey was my least favourite as it was dry and pretty tasteless so I really don't miss it at all.
So what do I eat at Christmas?
Breakfast:
Half a grapefruit
Slice of toast with orange marmalade
Orange juice
We all like a big dinner so we don't bother with a starter, but for the main course I have:
Roast potatoes
Roast parsnips
Carrots
Sprouts
Cabbage
Vegetarian chipolata sausages
Quorn turkey-style slices with cranberries (sometimes we have nut roast)
Bread sauce
Cranberry sauce
Vegetarian gravy
Sage and onion stuffing (I love stuffing!)
Dessert:
Christmas pudding made with vegetarian suet
Whipped cream with brandy
Snacks/party food etc:
Cheese and onion rolls
Mince pies (made with vegetarian suet)
Sandwiches filled with any of the following:-
- Egg mayonnaise
- Hummus
- Mushroom paté
- Cheese and tomato
Dips with raw veggies
Cheese and pineapple on sticks
I have a wonderful time and don't feel guilty that a bird had to die for me to do so.
