Asparagus
Cut off the woody portion of the stems and scrape the white part lightly, removing any coarse spines. 
Tie in bundles, place upright in a pan of water and boil for 10 minutes.
Now lay the bundles flat in the pan and continue to cook until tender— about 10 minutes.
Drain very well, remove the string and serve the asparagus with melted butter.
