Caramelised Onions

Caramelised onions are very easy to make and they are an excellent standby to add to other dishes to improve the flavour. You can also use them to brighten up a sandwich or with cheese and crackers.

Ingredients

3 medium onions, peeled and sliced
2-3 tbs oil or butter
1/2 tsp sugar
Salt to taste

Method

1. Heat the oil or butter until it is hot but not burning.

2. Add the sliced onions and cook until soft and blond, stir as necessary.

3. Reduce the heat, add the sugar and salt and stir well. Stir often because they must not burn. After about 15 minutes, when they turn a lovely golden brown, they will be ready.
