Quorn

Quorn is manufactured from mycoprotein by a company called Marlow Foods using a fermentation process which produces a product closely related to a truffle or mushroom.

The result is a bland flavoured, mushroom coloured product which can be used in place of meat in any recipe. Its introduction has revolutionised cookery for vegetarians as it takes the guess work out of making many veggie alternatives to traditional meals.

Its bland flavour makes it ideal for marinating and using in a variety of recipes where it will easily absorb the flavour of the other ingredients but still retain a meaty 'bite' which so many of us miss when giving up meat at the beginning.

It can be bought in chunks, mince and 'steaks' all of which can be used in the same way meat can, or as ready prepared meals.

Being low in calories and high in protein it should become a regular part of any vegetarian's diet.

There have been scares in the US due to some allergic reactions to it by some consumers however these incidents have been far fewer than those who have allergic reactions to nuts!
